Admit it! Every single person has at least once imagined themselves being a part of their fandom’s actual universe. Whether you see yourself with Batman’s cowl, Rukia Kuchiki’s Zanpakuto Sode no Shirayuki, or killing space slugs in a galaxy far, far away, you’ve definitely spent hours imagining the adventures and fanfics you would come to turn into reality.
For every person who’s ever thought about it, there are those who bring it to life and transform themselves into the heroes we all wish to embody. This is the magic of cosplay, where imagination, hard work, and lots of glue can turn your average joe into G.I. Joe.
In 2018, ComicCon Asia brings together some of the world’s elite cosplayers and calls on you to join the ranks as you put on your war paint, get your gear on, and prepare to transform into the hero you were destined to be!
With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility
At this 2-day palooza of comics, gaming, anime, movies, series, and cosplay, ComicCon Asia 2018 will have rad cosplayers coming together with the leading artists in the game to hold excellent performances and in-depth workshops so that aspiring fans can learn about the various aspects of cosplay.
Fame and longevity aside, these skilled individuals are cool people at heart who want to share their abilities and show you how to be exactly who you want to be.
Check out the exclusive line-up below.
One of the most talented and well-known cosplayers, a solid gunpla builder, and overall badass, Linda Le aka Vampy Bit Me is coming over to hold a workshop on creating fabric for various costumes. With her expertise in crafting different cosplay looks like Teresa from Claymore, Psylocke from X-Men, and Monster Hunter Generations, Linda will share the knowledge that made her the Vampy fans adore.
All the way from Austria, popular cosplayer and model Nana Kuronoma will be coming to hold a workshop for posing and facial expressions for cosplay. Part of what makes every great cosplay work both in photos and real life is getting each character’s movements and looks right. Known for her cosplay calendar and varying style, Nana has spoken about wanting to give back to her fans by helping them hone their own craft.
Letting folks in on the secret of creating the perfect armor for each costume will be Chad Hoku of Hoku Props! An expert at 3d-modeling, building high-quality pieces and making prop designs, Chad’s massive catalogue includes unforgettable creations like the humongous Overwatch cosplay previewed at TwitchCon and his LED costume eyes.
Finally, a joining of forces will be held to teach folks how to bring superheroes from comics to the camera. Known as the ultimate geek photographer and a pro at cosplay photography, Jay Tablante, who created the jaw-dropping cosplay photobook series Geekology, will be at the helm. His special guest and workshop collaborator will be Anna Redei, or as everyone knows her, Enji Night. Famed for her designed costumes and impeccable cosplay, Enji will share the aspects of creating cosplay designed for shoots.
These convention mainstays will be leading their section as part of the five various zones during the event, namely Manga & Anime, Comics & Literature, Toys & Gaming, Movies, Series & Animation, and of course, Cosplay.
According to ComicCon Asia’s event producer Pauline Laping, their goal is to create “an avenue where people can feel the same sense of belongingness, wonder, and excitement.”
As even casual fans will gather with the most well-versed fans in their shared love of all things beautifully geeky and witnessing cosplay awesomeness, ComicCon Asia 2018 will indeed serve as a mecca of fangirls and fanboys mashing up the greatest fandoms like infinite timelines coming into one Earth.
